Independent Financial Group Raises $35,000 at Annual National Conference to Support Local Charities

San Diego, CA – August 26, 2024 - Independent Financial Group, LLC (IFG), a San Diego-based independent broker-dealer founded in 2003, announced a donation of $35,000 to four local San Diego charities, raised during its 19th annual National Conference.

The funds were distributed among four different San Diego-based charities: Promises2Kids, Just in Time for Foster Youth, The Mitchell Thorp Foundation, and The Challenged Athletes Foundation. The amount was raised during IFG’s 19th annual National Conference that took place at the Hilton Bayfront in Downtown San Diego in August. IFG hosted a silent auction that occurs throughout the duration of the conference and a live auction during the final night All White Yacht Rock party. IFG matched all contributes raised during the event.

“Giving back has always been at the heart of who we are at IFG,” said Scott Heising, Founder and CEO of IFG. “Supporting organizations like Promises2Kids, Just in Time for Foster Youth, the Mitchell Thorp Foundation, and the Challenged Athletes Foundation allows us to make a real, lasting impact right here in our San Diego community. It’s not just about writing a check—it’s about showing up, year after year, to be part of something bigger. I’m proud of our team, our advisors, and our partners for embracing this tradition and continuing to grow our culture of giving.”

In addition to these charitable donations, IFG partnered with Nationwide for a fun, philanthropic twist during the Sponsor Fair at the conference: a cornhole challenge. For every hole-in-one, Nationwide donated a bag of Growlers dog treats to local animal shelters selected by IFG—an amount that IFG matched. For the second consecutive year, IFG and Nationwide together donated hundreds of treats to the San Diego Human Society and the Helen Woodward Animal Center. Made from repurposed grains donated by local breweries, Growlers treats are packaged by individuals with disabilities, aligning with IFG’s broader mission to support inclusive and community-driven causes.

About IFG’s Selected Charities

Promises2Kids responds to the needs of foster children and those who have been removed from their home due to abuse and neglect. Just in Time for Foster Youth helps the youth leaving the foster care system, giving them access to a community of lived experienced peers and caring adults after 18. In memory of their son Mitchell, Brad and Beth Thorp founded the Mitchell Thorp Foundation with the goal of supporting families whose children suffer from life-threatening illnesses and disorders by providing financial, emotional, and resource support. The Challenged Athletes Foundation provides opportunities and support for physically disabled athletes so they can pursue active lifestyles and competitive athletics.
